This morning I got some organizing done and decided what I wanted to get rid of so I can cut down some of the weight in my suitcases. Plus I just don’t need some of this stuff and it would be much more useful to someone traveling here. Such as, a travel sewing kit & extra thread, a cell phone charger for a car, two padlocks that work well for hostel lockers, some work gloves, Epsom salts, super glue, bug spray, nail polish remover, my New Zealand cell phone, and my duvet and duvet cover. I am actually sad to decide to leave my duvet cover but I just don’t have room for it.

Once I finished that, I went to a nearby market

and bought a mince & cheese pie.

After I finished looking around there, I went exploring.

First I saw this awesome hedge of lavender.

Such a great idea! 🙂

I was trying to go to Mount Eden, which is an inactive volcano, but there is also apparently an old prison that is called the same thing and Google Maps took me there instead. Which probably wasn’t the safest area but thankfully I didn’t have any trouble. Thankfully the volcano wasn’t too far from there but I was pretty tired by the time I got there. It was about 2.5 miles to get there and then I needed to climb up the volcano! Whew. But I was determined and the views were worth it. 🙂

It’s hard to really show how deep the crater is but this video is the closest I can get to showing.

I walked around the crater and took in the sights and then I headed back. Thankfully I went a different way on the way back, so I saw an older (nicer) neighborhood with some neat looking houses. And this awesome tree. 🙂

On the way back I walked through Newmarket, which is basically a suburb of Auckland that is a few blocks with lots of different shops, but mostly mall type shops. They were fairly interesting to look at but I didn’t go into many of them. I did go grocery shopping while I was there though. On my way back I walked through Parnell, which is the suburb that my hostel is in. It has more unique shops and was definitely more interesting to look at. I didn’t look at a lot of them because I was pretty tired and because a lot were closed because it is Sunday. I’m planning on exploring them again soon though.

By the time I got back I was pretty exhausted and when I checked my step tracker I realized why!
